Abstract
522,352. Shearing. CARR, A. R. July 22. 1939, No. 21336. Convention date, July 22, 1938, [Class 83 (iv)] Removing waste.-In a machine for cutting-up scrap metal comprising a fixed cutter blade co-operating with a rotary cutter blade, the blades are reciprocated longitudinally so as to vary the cutting points of the blades and thus to increase the interval between resharpening operations. The machine may be combined with a machine having blades 3 for side, trimming the edges of a metal strip. The scrap passes from the blades 3 through a box like guide 40 secured in the housing 15 of the scrap cutting machine which comprises a fixed cutter 4 and a rotary cutter 5. The housing 15 is secured to a slide plate 10 reciprocated on a guide 7 by a connecting rod 34 and crank pin 33 adjusted by a screw on a face plate 29, which is driven through reducing gear 27 and chain gear 24 from a shaft 22. The rotary cutter 5 is mounted on a splined shaft 16 which is driven from the shaft 22 by belt gear 20.
