Abstract

521,975. Metallic chlorides. POLLAK, J. E. (Richardson, H. A.). Nov. 30, 1938, No. 34817. [Class 1 (iii)] Anhydrous metallic chlorides are prepared by heating a compound of the metal with chlorine containing a small amount of water vapour. When the compound contains oxygen a reducing agent such as carbon may be added. Chlorides specified are those of aluminium, iron, chromium, beryllium, magnesium, cerium, tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, niobium, uranium, zirconium and thorium.
