Abstract
521,826. Reinforced concrete. WALKER, J. H. Nov. 29, 1938, No. 34762. [Class 20 (iv)] Reinforcement for reinforced concrete is held in position by spaced supports supported from above the reinforcement, each support being provided with spaced depending elements to engage beneath the reinforcement and movable with the support to release the reinforcement. In one form, Fig. 2, the supporting members f are spaced apart by rods p and each member carries a number of hooked shaped elements h i adapted to be locked to the member by wedges g, after the hooks have been inserted beneath the reinforcing bars d. Two layers of reinforcing bars may be supported at each position by either a double hook, or by two single hooks of different lengths. The ends of the members are supported on battens which are removed after the casting and before the setting of the concrete, so that the hooks are lowered either by longitudinal, lateral or rocking movement of the support, removed with the support from the casting position. The hooked shaped elements may be provided with hooked shaped upper extremities to embrace the supporting members to which they are locked by wedges. The hooks 11 on the depending elements 12 may be adjustably bolted to them as shown in Fig. 8. For long transverse supports intermediate standards x, Fig. 4, with bifurcated legs to straddle the reinforcement may be provided and the support provided with splines to engage slots z in the standards so that the support may be slid longitudinally to release it from the standards. The ends of the supports may. be of cam shape, so that when rotated, their axes are lowered simultaneously with the withdrawal of the hooks from the reinforcement.
