521,751. Cleats. DIMMOCK, L., and BROWN, T. Oct. 25, 1938, No. 30861. [Class 109] A rope cleat comprises a fixed part 28 in the form of a tubular guide with a longitudinally extending slit 29 near one end and a part 33 pivoted at 31. The rope or wire is passed through the guide, which is humped at 37 to grip tne rope, which may also be lapped around horns 34, 36. In a modification, the rope &c. is passed through a tapering channel the flow of which is humped at 44. A wedge 46 slidable on an inclined rib tends to hold the rope &c. against the hump 44. In another modification, the walls of the guide are slotted to take a spindle carrying a bracket in which two toothed wheels gearing with ratchet teeth on the device are mounted. The undersides of these wheels engage the surface of the rope &c. and force it against the humped floor of the device.
