[Class 91] [Also in Groups V and IV] An antioxidant for rubber, vegetable oils, essential oils, turpentine, petroleum oils, soaps, aldehydes, synthetic resins, &c. consists of a perimidine compound of the formula :- where Y is a peri-aromatic nucleus, and R, R<SP>1</SP> represent hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group which may be substituted. Examples are 2, 2-dimethyl-2, 3-dihydro-perimidine; 4-hydroxy- 2-ethyl-2-methyl-2, 3-dihydro-perimidine ; 6, 7-ethylene-2, 3-dihydro-perimidine ; 2, 2-cyclopentamethylene-6-methyl-2, 3-dihydroperimidine; and 2-phenyl-2, 3-dihydroperimidine.
