Abstract

521,392. Compound sheet materials. DYNAMITAKT.-GES. VORM. A. NOBEL & CO. Oct. 31, 1938, Nos. 31485, 31486, [Convention dates, Oct. 29, 1937], 31487, [Convention date, Nov. 25, 1937], and 31488, [Convention date, Jan. 27, 1938]. [Class 140] [Also in Group V] Vehicle coachwork, superstructure and frame construction parts are made from shaped pieces of fibrous material obtained from an aqueous suspension of fibrous material by expelling the liquid on a permeable support, the pieces being provided on the surface only or throughout their cross-section with hardenable artificial resins having a phenol or amide basis or with thermoplastic artificial substances having a vinyl halide basis or with mixtures of such artificial substances and consolidated into final form with employment of heat with or without pressure. The parts may be built up by superimposing and uniting several shaped pieces, e.g., fibrousmaterial webs sized in the manner of paper production may be layered over one another with binding-agent foils or fibrous-material webs containing binding agents, the whole being consolidated by a method appropriate to the agent used. The surface of webs, preferably in the form of paper, may be enlarged as by corrugating &c. The webs or layers may have zones of binding- agent impregnations of varying degrees, or the binding agent may be distributed to permeate or enclose the finished piece in the form of a skeleton. The shaped pieces may also have apertures so that during the consolidation of the pieces into frame parts the binding agent penetrates into the holes and unites the pieces in a rivet-like manner. Metal or wood inserts or veneers may be provided on the parts, and during the shaping, elements such as hinges, bushings, extensions or lugs may be pressed in. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 17141/89. [Class 96], 359,950, 410,383, 444,490, 461,270, [all in Group V], and 392,952, [Group XXXII].
