[Class 44] A stud device particularly for securing carpets to floors and which holds by friction, without snap action, comprises a strip of spring metal bent to provide limbs 1, 2 of bowed or arcuate form, a neck 4 and outwardly turned feet 5. The limbs may be curved in crosssection with the convexities inwards or outwards, and may be provided with projections or recesses to engage the edge or wall of an aperture into which the stud is inserted in use. The feet 5 may be cemented or moulded in a button of synthetic resin, or as shown, may be inserted in a flanged washer 6 covered by a cap 9 to which a fabric cover 10 may be applied, Specification 513,602 being referred to. Alternatively, the feet may be held within an apertured retainer of the kind described in Specifications 451,721 or 497,719 and secured to the carpet &c. The nose 3 is preferably pointed to facilitate passage through a hole in the carpet &c. and entry into an aperture in the floor, but it may be rounded or flat. In a modification the strip is bent to form arcuate limbs and outturned feet without restriction 4 and is used without a button bead, the feet lying against the carpet pile. Fig. 7 shows a further modification in which the limbs are apertured at 11 so that each comprises a pair of members 12, 13.
