521,170. Nailingslabs for walls, floors and ceilings. SHARPLES, A. G., and BRYAN, H. A. Nov. 11, 1938, Nos. 32782 and 33412. [Class 20 (iv)] Relates to walls, floors, or ceilings, particularly of the kind formed of hollow blocks or tiles, and consists in the provision of a narrow wooden or like slabs arranged edgewise between the bricks &c. so as to provide a nailing surface at opposite sides of the brickwork, the slabs having projections such as flanges to engage at least one of a pair of adjacent bricks so as to key the slab against movement normal to the face of the brickwork. The blocks shown in Fig. 1 have three superposed horizontal cavities 20, 21, 22 of rectangular cross-section, and the wooden slab 24 is provided with projections 27 adapted to fit the ends of the upper and lowest cavities 20, 22 in the blocks. The projections 27 may be located on the same side of the slab as shown in the left-hand side of Fig. 1 or on opposite sides of the slab as shown in the right-hand side of Fig. 1. The keying between the projections 27 and the mouths of the cavities in the blocks may be assisted by the application of mortar. Apertures may be provided in the slab to interconnect the cavities of adjacent blocks. The width of the slabs may be such they stand proud of the brickwork on one or both sides thereof and the plaster on the brickwork faces may be arranged either to lie flush with, and to cover, the insert. In some cases, the slab need not extend for the full depth of the brick, and in this case it is provided with a single projection 27. The slab shown in Fig. 8 is of I-section, and the ends of adjacent bricks B are adapted to engage between the flanges 33 of the section. The slab may also be shaped so that the flanges 33 project only from one face of the strip so as to provide a channel-shaped member, and the slab may also have the projections 33 on the ends of the slab projecting in opposite directions, When the invention is applied to floors and ceilings, the joint between adjacent blocks is of reinforced concrete.
