Abstract
520,831. Goggles. MARTINEK, A. Sept. 29, 1938, No. 28372. Convention date, July 28. Addition to 512,993. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XXXII] An anti-dazzle device for personal wear or vehicle windscreens to shield the eyes from an approaching source of light comprises several transparent screens arranged in a row across the field of vision, and so disposed, or adapted to be so disposed, as regards their distances apart and obliquity to the transverse direction in relation to their dimensions that an approximately straight-ahead ray passes through one screen only, while rays inclined at a substantial angle to the straight-ahead direction, e.g., lying between 10 degrees and 45 degrees thereto, pass through two or more screens. The screens may be of graded opacity, and may be supplemented by a single broad transverse screen. The device may comprise oval &c. screens 94 each mounted on a rod 95 connected by a ball and socket joint 96 to a telescopic rod 91 mounted for universal adjustment in a socket 92 carried by a headband 90. Fig. 5 shows the screens 120 mounted on rods 119 rotatably connected to sleeves adjustable on a frame 116 mounted on a pair of spectacles. The frame may, however, be mounted on a spectacle frame without lenses, or it may be itself in the form of a spectacle frame. The screen may be mounted on a transverse screen 121, Fig. 9, similarly carried by spectacles or a spectacle frame. Other arrangements for use on vehicles are described.
