Abstract
520,281. Lactic acid preparations. HEIDE, H. C. (Bickel, W.). July 18, 1938, No. 21322. [Class 81 (i)] [Also in Groups III and IV] Solid non-hygroscopic lactic acid preparations useful as medicines, disinfectants &c. are prepared by mixing a salt of lactic acid, or a salt of another acid which will react with lactic acid to give a crystalline lactate, with a proportion of lactic acid more than twice that required to convert all the metallic ions present into normal lactate, and heating until the product is capable of setting. In a typical example, 8.8 gms. of calcium acetate are dispersed in 90 gms. of lactic acid by warming to 60‹C. and maintained at this temperature for ten minutes, after which it sets on cooling. Lactates of other alkaline earth and magnesium group metals, lithium, copper, and iron, are also referred to.
