Abstract

1425836 Feed supplements I C I AUSTRALIA Ltd 8 May 1973 [10 May 1972] 21824/73 Heading A2B [Also in Division A5] A composition in the form of a solid, rigid "block" for combatting hypomagnesaemic tetany in animals is prepared by heating together molasses and magnesium oxide, casting the molten mix into blocks and cooling. Preferably, the temperature of the mix does not exceed 90‹C and water may be added to cause liquifaction without the use of excessive temperatures. Other therapeutic or dietary supplementing ingredients may be included, in particular phosphates and sources of non-protein nitrogen, e.g. urea and salts thereof, biuret and methylene diurea. Trace elements and additional sources of carbohydrate may also be included. The block may be used as a "lick" or it may be added to animal feed stuffs when in the form of small particles, e.g. pellets.
