Abstract

520,149. Grinding cement clinker. STEVENS, A. H. (Cabot, Inc., G. L.). Oct. 12, 1938. No. 29545. [Class 59] [Also in Group V] A process for manufacturing dark cement is characterized by the step of advancing burned limestone and gypsum through a ball mill anc introducing a uniform flow of dense spherical grain carbon black simultaneously with the clinker at the receiving end of the mill. The granular carbon black may be of the type knowr by the Registered Trade Mark " Spheron " which is manufactured in accordance with Specificatior 404,452, [Group III]. Apparatus for carrying out the process may be of known type shown in the drawing in which burned clinker 16 from a hopper 18 falls on to a rotating plate 19 and is swept by 'a blade 20 into a hopper 14 for conveyance to the ball mill 10. A similar device supplies gypsum to the mill from a hopper 21 Granular carbon black 24 is supplied from a hopper 25 to a conveyer belt 26 and falls intc the hopper 14 where it mixes with the clinker and gypsum before passing into the mill. The hopper 14 is attached to a fixed plate 13 in the endplate of the drum, and the ground material is discharged through a shoot 15. Specification 505,357 also is referred to.
