Abstract
519,229. Photo-electric tests. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and THOMAS, R. S. Oct. 4, 1938, No. 28799. [Class 40 (iii)] Relates to systems of testing chemical substances of the kind in which the substance, for example, hydrogen sulphide, is brought into contact with another substance, for example. lead acetate, coated on or impregnated in a moving strip of material whereby a change of colour is produced, which change is detected by passing the strip between a source of light and a photo-electric cell, the output of which is amplified and indicated and recorded by a milliammeter which may be graduated to give directly the content of the hydrogen sulphide in parts per million. Whatman No. 1 filter paper has been used for the strip. According to the invention, a transparent film of cellulose or cellulose derivative, for example, the material sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Cellophane," is used for the strip.
