Abstract
517,700. Refrigerating. BLOCH, R., and GOLDBERGER, F. Aug. 5, 1938, No. 23201. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1937. [Class 29] Absorption systems. - Generator-absorber vessels for reversing systems using solid absorbents such as calcium chloride comprise a number of cylindrical absorbent chambers 1 connected together by ribs 2 parallel with their axes. They may be grouped to form a chamber 3 heated internally by hot water, gas, steam or electricity. Where a gas burner 4<11>, Fig. 4, is used a baffle 2<1> is placed above the flame and the whole may be placed in a casing 5 having air holes 8 at the sides and a hinged lid 6 which is shut during the heating period and open during the cooling period, the control being effected by hand, or thermally as described in Specification 500,002. A perforated baffle 13 may be located below a hole 14 in the lid. A thermal control element as described in Specification 481,158, [Group XXXVII], may be located in a recess 11, Fig. 3, in a metal mass 9 connecting two cylinders. A group of cylinders and ribs may be formed of two complementary metal stampings, Fig. 5, welded together at the edges of the ribs. A groove 15 along one edge of each stamping provides a communicating vapour conduit. The solid absorbent may be placed in sealed glass vessels or wire gauze tubes 18, Fig. 7, placed in the grooves of the stampings before assembly. A spiral wire 20 or a wick is placed at the side of the absorbent container to provide a vapour path after the absorbent swells up. Where glass vessels are used they are fractured when the absorbent swells. The use as absorbent of manganese and praseodymium chlorides is mentioned.
