Abstract

517,546. Laminated springs. WOODHEAD & SONS, Ltd., J., and SANDERS, T. H. July 29, 1938, No. 22544. [Class 108 (iii)] The ends of the plates of laminated springs are formed with integral embossments to take the wear and the wearing surfaces of the embossments are locally heat-treated to give them a metallurgical structure different from that of the plates against which they bear. The surface of the embossment a may be plane or formed with depressions c of any desired shape in plan. The recesses may serve as retainers for lubricant or may be filled with vulcanised rubber, graphite, brass, or any other non-ferrous materials which will eliminate squeaks. The wearing surfaces of the embossments are preferably heat treated to give them a different metallurgical structure from that of the surfaces against which they bear. The spring plates may be bolted together so that they are in contact at the centre or, as shown in Fig. 6, separators e may be insertea.
