517,466. Feeding metal to melting-pots. KLINGE, W. H. E. July 14, 1938. No. 20886. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XVI] In a device for feeding metal to a metal-pot, in which an ingot is suspended from a line passing over a rotatable drum having means such as clockwork for controlling the feed, the drum is arranged for vertical displacement within a fixed housing, which has means co-operating with the feed-controlling means to maintain a uniform speed of rotation of the drum irrespective of alterations in the weight of the ingot. The ingot is suspended. from a wire 14 passing around a drum 9 mounted in a housing 3, which can slide vertically in a fixed housing 1 and is supported by springs 6. Rotation of the drum is controlled by clockwork 19, the pendulum 20 of which passes through a ring 28 carried by the fixed housing. The weight of a fresh ingot draws the housing 3 down, so that the ring 28 allows the maximum swinging of the pendulum. As the ingot melts and its weight decreases, the springs 6 raise the housing 3, so that the ring 28 increasingly restricts the swing of the pendulum, and the speed of rotation of the drum remains unaltered. When the metal level rises, a float breaks the circuit of a solenoid 21, so that a brake in the form of a spring pressed bar 22 stops the pendulum.
