Abstract
517,106. Milling screw-threads. ARCHDALE & CO., Ltd., J., and ARCHDALE, F. Sept. 2, 1938, No. 25690. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIV] Work driving mechanism for a screw-thread milling machine comprises the combination of a worm wheel c for driving the work spindle a, a worm d for driving the worm wheel and a spring or weight loaded means adapted to press the worm into close contact with the worm wheel for eliminating back-lash between the teeth of the worm and wheel. The worm is secured to a spindle e driven through pinions f, g from a driving shaft h provided also with a hand wheel i for manual operation if required. The spindle e is carried by a frame k pivotally mounted on the shaft h and engaged by a spring loaded plunger l so that the worm is pressed tightly against the worm wheel. In order to prevent axial movement of the spindle e one end is supported by an axially free bush p against which a plate q is pressed by a screw r. At the other end the frame k presses against the body o of the machine through the medium of the pinion g and a washer v.
