Abstract
939,024. Toothed gearing. GES FUR FERTIGUNGSTECHNIK UND MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. Feb. 1, 1960 [Feb. 5, 1959], No. 3412/60. Class 80 (1). In a milling machine, a shaft 20, Figs. 1 and 2, carrying a cutting tool 21, is driven from a shaft 24 through a worm 29, worm wheel 30, shaft 31, spur gears 32, 34, shaft 33 and spur gears 35, 23, and backlash is taken up by a spring-pressed worm 26 splined to the shaft 24 and engaging a worm wheel 22 on the shaft 20. The shaft 24 is driven by a pulley 25 which also acts as a flywheel. The worm 26 is mounted on a sleeve 27 which is acted upon by compression plate springs 28. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 3, the worm 26 is mounted on a hollow shaft 27 which is urged axially by a spring 36, the tension of which may be varied by a nut 37 on the end of the driving shaft. The sleeve 27 has a shoulder 38 which bears against a sleeve 39 rotatably mounted in an outer sleeve 41 by bearings 40. The axial position of the sleeve 41 may be varied by adjustment of screwed rings 42, 43. The spring 36 may be omitted and the backlash taken up by screwing the ring 43 hard against a washer 45 which may or may not be resilient.
