Abstract
516,578. Cutting ice-cream. WALL & SONS, Ltd., T., and STONESTREET, G. A. June 28, 1938, No. 19189. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] In a machine for packing ice-cream into cartons, a continuous supply is fed through a conduit 11 to the filling station and a cut-off valve at the lower end thereof comprises blades 12 slidable in fixed guides 13. The blades are operated in timed relationship with the cupseparating mechanism 4 by a rod 18 having a stop 20 adapted to contact with a lever 21 pivoted at 22 to the fixed guide 13 and connected to the right-hand blade 12 by means of a pin- and-slot device 26<1>. The left-hand blade is moved at the same time by a link 23, lever 24 and pin-and-slot device 26. When the rod moves to the right the slides are closed by a spring 29. The blades are undercut at 30, Fig. 5, to prevent adherence to the cut-off portion of ice-cream, and may be heated to ensure easy working. The slides are opened as each cup comes to rest at the filling station and closed during the movement of the cups. The speed of operation of the machine may be varied without varying the rate of feed through the conduit 11 and without disturbing the timed relationship between the slides and the cup feed. By this means the machine may be used to fill cups of different sizes.
