Abstract

516,257. Arm rests for vehicles. SLEIGH. H. L. and CHESTON, A. S. July 20, 1938, No. 21501. [Class 52 (ii)] An arm rest 1, Fig. 2, for vehicles is attached to a bracket 3 pivotally connected to the upper end of a vertically adjustable member 5 by a rivet or bolt and friction washers 9. Alternatively, the bolt may be replaced by one with a differential screw action. Alternatively the washers may be replaced by co-operating toothed rings fixed together, after adjustment, by nut and bolt. The member 5 consists of a longitudinally slotted bar or plate adapted to be vertically adjustable by means of a clamping bolt 10 passing through the slot and screwing into a relatively fixed boss 7, . rotation being provided by lugs 12 fixed to the boss, and vertical movement by the bolt 10 having conical faces 11a engaging with conical seatings 13 in the slot. Alternatively, Fig. 3, the member 16 may be slidably mounted in a fixed slotted sheath 17 and carries a clamping bolt 19 with a washer frictionally retaining the arm rest at different heights.
