Abstract
515,905. Lifting-slings. THIRLWELL, R. June 15, 1938, No. 17831. [Class 78 (iv)] In a. sling of the type in which the rope is connected at one end to a barrel A, Fig. 1, and also' runs freely through an orifice in the barrel: (a) the hole in the barrel is flared out- 'wards at one or both ends, (b) the bottom of the attachment hook B projects below the bottom of the barrel, (c) the bottom of the barrel is wider than the top when the measurements are made perpendicular to a vertical plane containing the hook, or alternatively the bottom may comprise a circle of larger diameter than the top and (d) the side of the barrel may be cut away at C<1>, Fig. 7, at a point opposite to the hook to facilitate the entry of the rope, such cut-away portion being used either with the hook of Fig. 1 or the modified guarded hook F shown in Fig. 7.
