Abstract

515,736. Driving-chains. DENNISON, E. A., and KENNEDY & KEMPE, Ltd. April 11, 1938, No. 11046. [Class 24] [Also in Groups XXXI and XXII] A built-up sole plate for an endless track comprises a body or base-piece B, Fig. 5, of length corresponding to the width of the track the said base-piece being provided with a .longitudinal ridge k slotted transversely at intervals, and a plurality of links m, Fig. 7, secured in the said slots, the links being formed with holes for the hinge pins connecting the' sole plates together. The links mare stampings preferably of high tensile, steel and are first assembled loosely on a pair of rods t, Fig. 6, so that they can. be fitted between the slots in the ridge k, after which they are welded or brazed to the base-piece. The rods t ensure the hinge-pin holes n being in line. Each basepiece may be formed from a pair of tubes a, Fig. 2, having machined flat faces b welded together; the member thus formed is then machined to the form shown in Fig. 5. In a modification the base-piece may be formed from the halves of a tube welded together as shown in Fig. 9.
