Abstract

515,685. Automatic control systems. KRIJGER, L. P. March 10, 1938, No. 7551. Convention date, March 10, 1937. [Class 38 (iv)] Tension in a web of paper or fabric wound from a reel is controlled by a braking generator driven by the reel and automatically controlled, for example by a relay responsive differentially to the power and speed of a winding motor, to maintain it constant. To reduce the size of generator required the speed of winding is reduced whenever the braking generator attains an operating .condition related to its speed. As shown a. contact e is made when the brush rocker of an a.c. commutator braking machine G has reached a limiting position and an auxiliary motor a is thus operated to move the brushes of a commutator driving motor M to reduce the winding speed. The control relay has current and voltage coils opposed by a coil l fed by a tachometer generator T and operates upon a reversible motor b to control the braking.
