[Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Reagents such as lime or soda or alloying additions such as manganese, chromium, molybdenum, titanium, or vanadium, are added to pig iron in a blast furnace by introducing them, after removal of all or part of the slag, into the lower part of the furnace either through the charging opening or by blowing them in or both. After the addition, the furnace may be operated slowly or intermittently.
