515,245. Prepayment mechanism for meters. SWITCHGEAR & METERS, Ltd., and ANGOLD, A. W. July 19, 1938, No. 20752/39. Divided out of 515,240. [Class 27] A price - change mechanism for prepayment meters comprises a number of coaxial wheels 5, Fig. 1, of progressively increasing diameter mounted in a rocking cradle 9 so that any one of the wheels 5 can mesh with a toothed wheel 11 adjustable along an axis 12 parallel with the common axis 6 of the wheels 5, the wheel 11 being driven by a long pinion 27 rotated by the hand-operated coin-controlled part of the prepayment mechanism which is described in Specification 515,223. The axis 12 is a screw-threaded shaft engaged by a non - rotatable hub 14 on which the wheel 11 rotates, the shaft 12 being rotated to adjust the position of the wheel 11 by a turn-screw applied to a head 13. The price in force is indicated by a pointer 23 connected by gearing 21, 22 to the shaft 12. During adjustment the cradle 9 is moved by a hand lever 17, Fig. 2, against the action of a spring 18 to disengage the wheels 5 from the wheel 11. The wheels 5 are separated by blanks 7 and a selected wheel 5 is correctly meshed with the wheel 11 when the blank 7 in front of the selected-wheel is in contact with a blank 19 in front of wheel 11, this position being indicated by pointer 23. The motion from the wheels 5 is transmitted by gears 8, 32 to one sun-wheel of the quantity-mechanism differential gear 33, and from this gear through two change-speed gears 37 to the crediting cam 36 of the mechanism, the cam 36 operating as described in Specification 515,240. The two-speed gear wheels are carried by a pair of rockable plates 44, and determine the price range of the mechanism. This range is indicated by a pin on the frame 44 working in a slot of the frame plate 1.
