[Class 112] A ribbon or the like is tied into a bow by drawing it about a portion of cardboard or the like not wider than the ribbon, passing one free end of the ribbon around the other, which may have been folded back to form one arm of a bow, to form' a loop drawing an intermediate portion of said free end through the loop to form a bow and tightening the bow. The cardboard may be withdrawn before or after tightening or not at all. The cardboard may be a portion of a large sheet defined by two slits or by one slit and a larger opening. A machine is described which punches the slits in the cardboard, cuts lengths of ribbon from stock and forms the bows.
