Abstract

514,514. Electrolytic cells. POMILIO, U. April 9, 1938, No. 10947. [Class 41] In a cell, particularly for the electrolysis of sodium chloride, having anodes 13 of porous artificial graphite, connection is made to the bus-bar 44 by a lead 45 dipping into a mercury cup formed in a tapered plug 42 of graphite fitted into the top of the anode. The cathode chambers are mounted in openings in the cell body 10 and are formed of outer metal walls 14, and inner perforated metal walls 15 against which are secured asbestos sheets 19 reinforced by woven asbestos fabric. The cathode chambers may be suspended from a girder, and are held in place by clamps 20.
