Abstract
514,385. Yarn clearers. UNIVERSAL WINDING CO. April 29, 1938, No. 12901. Convention date, May 10, 1937. [Class 120 (ii)] Yarn or the like is passed between opposed relatively, adjustable cleaning members one of which is moved by a spring to vary the gap when the securing means are loosened, the cleaning members being adapted to co-operate with a gauge to limit their relative movement. The cleaning device is shown in Fig. 2 and the separated parts of it in Fig. 6. The framework 2 has a web 5 substantially of the form of a right angled triangle partly bounded by a marginal flange 3. Near the base is a slot 6 the lower face of which is widened to form a flat ledge 7 over which the yarn is drawn. The movable cleaning element is a flat blade 10 with a true edge 11 and an inclined edge 12 which abuts against the inner face of the part 4 of the flange 3; the blade also has a rectangular opening 16. A rectangular block 20 rests in the lower corner of the flange 3 and forms a seat for the cover plate 25, the lower part of which is cut away so that the part 27 is above the ledge 7. A spring 30 is arranged between the flange 3 and the end 14 of the blade. When the parts are assembled the cylindrical head 36 is pushed into the opening 38 in the web 5 until the flange 37 rests against the web. The centrally placed screw 35 on this head passes through the blade opening 16 and the nut 40 is screwed on to hold the blade; the cover is then put on so that the opening 29 embraces the nut. The cover is then secured by the screw 23. To adjust the cleaning gap the head 36 is turned by the wrench 45 to loosen the nut 40 and to cause the crank pin 41 to move the blade 10 back against the spring 30. A gauge G of the required size is placed on the ledge 7 and the head 36 is turned in the reverse direction so that the blade 10 is moved by the spring to rest on top of the gauge. Continued movement of the head tightens the nut 40 and the gauge can then be removed. The yarn is drawn through the gap between the ledge 7 and the edge 11 of the blade, and is given a reciprocating movement so that slubs, bunches, motes and the like are removed.
