Abstract

513,942. Drying-apparatus. McLAREN, D. M. April 21, 1938, No. 11917. [Class 34 (ii)] Apparatus for drying clothing, fruit &c. comprises a chamber heated by a gas &c. burner disposed in a preferably corrugated casing b having a flue o and arranged in a vertical shaft open to the chamber at its upper end and having a cold air inlet j at its lower end. Moistureladen air is exhausted from the chamber through the lower end of a vertical duct connected to a funnel-shaped outlet k in the top of the chamber. Garments p may be suspended from a rotatable support a resting on the collar f of a shaft d rotated through pulley-gearing from a motor c. The motor and the gearing may be supported on a trestle formed of iron bars g and materials m. The shaft d may be formed with an extension n supported in a footstep bearing. In a modification, the support a is mounted on a hollow shaft g, Fig. 3, forming a flue for the casing b, or, alternatively, a steam conduit. The chamber may be formed either of canvas or sheet-iron.
