UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to garment steaming devices, and has for the primary object the provision of a device of this character which will introduce dry steam into a garment so that the steam may impregnate or pass through the fabric reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation, partly in section, illustrating a garment steaming device constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation, partly in section, illustrating the device.
Figure 3 is a top plan view illustrating the device.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4 -4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 2.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 66 of Figure 5.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral I indicates a hollow base, access to the interior thereof may be had by a doorway formed in thefront wall of said base and normally closed by a hinged door 2. Removably mounted in the base is a dome-shaped chamber 3 to which is secured a stufling gland 4 which extends through an opening 5 formed in the top wall of the base. The stufling gland 4 forms a journal for a hollow shaft 6 which extends into the steam chamber 3 and has secured thereto cup-shaped blades 1. The shaft 6 extends above the stufling gland 4 and has detachably secured thereto pairs of superimposed and horizontally arranged nozzles 8 surrounded by foraminous material 9. The foraminous material is in the form of a cone and has secured thereto supporting legs 10 mounted on the top wall of the base.
A support I I adjustable as to length is mounted on the base and its upper end is curved and terminates over the cone 9 and is provided with a ring l2 to receive the hook of a garment hanger 13. A garment I4 is suspended on the hanger with the cone 9 extending upwardly therein. To spread and anchor the garment to the base a plurality of clasns l are provided and which the shaft 6 just above the upper end of the gland are connected to the base by coil springs IS. The clasps when applied to the garment will tension said springs and as the garment is suspended from the coat hanger, the garment will be maintained with a desired tautness about the cone 9. 5
A condensation chamber I1 is located in the base I and has connected thereto a pipe ill to which a nozzle I9 is secured. The nozzle enters the steam chamber 3 opposite the blades 1. Cutoff valves 20 and 2| are located in the pipe I8 10 and the latter is also provided with a drain valve 22 located between the cut-off valves 20 and 2|. A steam supply pipe 23 is connected to the condensing chamber l1 adjacent the latters upper end and the lower end has connected thereto a 15 return or drain pipe 24. A baille 25 is located in the condensing chamber I! for the purpose of directing the incoming steam downwardly into the condensing chamber so'that said steam to pass or escape to the pipe l8 must pass upwardly 20 allowing any particles of watercondensing from the steam to pass to the pipe 24 so that steam entering the steam chamber 3 by way of the nozzle l9 will be dry. The steam escaping from the nozzle l9 against the blades rotate the shaft 6 25 and the latter in turn rotates the nozzles 8. The steam passes from the steam chamber 3 upwardly through the pipe 6 and thence to the nozzles 8 where it is directed against the inner face of the fabric of the garment after passing through the 30 cone 9. The cone 9 being of foraminous material will bring about a distribution of the steam from the nozzles over the inner face of the fabric. The fabric becomes impregnated with the steam and the latter passes through the fabric so as to remove wrinkles therefrom and cause the nap of the fabric to lose any matted appearance. A guard 26 is mounted on the upper end of 4 and is preferably in the form of an annular 0 cap having perforations 21 in its periphery and a, downwardly depending flange 28. The purpose of the guard 26 is to receive steam by way of the tubes 26 and distribute said steam to the lower portion of the garment. The steam may escape from the guard by way of the perforations and also in a downward direction due to the arrangementof the flange 28.
The opening 5 is closed by foraminous material 50 29 and is in communication with a compartment 30 formed in the base and in which is located an electrically driven fan II. The fan when in operation expels air through the opening 5 and this air passing upwardly may enter the garment 55 for the purpose oi aiding in drying the latter after the steaming operation.
The purpose of the drain valve 22 is to remove condensation from the pipe l8, this being accom- 5 plished by opening the valves 22 and 20 and closing the valve 2|, permitting live steam to force condensation from the pipe I 8.
Having described the invention, I claim: 1. A garment steaming device comprising a 0 base, means for supp rting a garment above said base, a foraminous form supported by the base and extending into the garment, a hollow shaft journaled to the base and extending into the form nozzles connected to said shaft and rotat- 15 able therewith, a steam chamber carried by said base and having the shaft extending therein, blades secured to the shaft and locatedsin the chamber, and means for admitting steam to the chamber against the blades.
2. A garment steaming device comprising a base, means for suspending a garment above said base, a toraminous form supported by the base 5 and extending upwardly in the garment, a pipe rotatably supported by the base and extending into the form and arranged centrally thereof, horizontally disposed nozzles connected to said pipe within the form and arranged in pairs with 10 the nozzles of each pair extending in opposite directions, a steam driven means connected to said pipe for rotating the latter, and means for directing steam from said steam driven means into the pipe and escaping from the latter by way 15 of the nozzles.
