Abstract

513,807. Sawing. EISENLOHR, H. June 2, 1938, No. 16545. [Class 145 (ii)] In a hydraulically - operated hacksaw, the blade frame is carried by two opposed horizontal coaxial cylinders which are guided on hollow pistons through which pressure liquid is supplied, the horizontal pistons being supported on hollow pistons working in vertical cylinders by which the saw is fed downwards. The blade 1 is mounted in a frame formed with cylinders 3, 4 of different diameter which work on pistons 7, 8 fixed in a carrier supported by hollow pistons 9, 10 working in fixed cylinders 11 by which the saw is adjusted towards and away from the work. Pressure liquid is supplied to the working and feed cylinders from a pump 14 through a piston control valve 58 operated at the end of each stroke by a liquid relay responsive to the movement of the saw. At the end of the working stroke to the right, stop 40 on the saw frame engages lever 42 and lowers relay piston valve 57 whereby pressure liquid is supplied from pipe 37 to the left of the large piston on valve 58. Liquid is thereby forced by the movement of valve 58, through pipes 27, 22 into cylinder 11 thus raising pistons 10 and lifting the saw away from the work. Pressure liquid is then supplied from pump 14 through pipes 16<1>, 12<1> and hollow piston 9 to the smaller cylinder 4 to effect the return stroke. At the end of the return stroke stop 41 engages lever 42 and raises valve 57 thus connecting the left side of large piston 58 to the exhaust pipe 39. Pressure liquid from pipe 25 then flows through pipe 23 to the upper sides of pistons 10 thus forcing the saw downwards on to the work. Liquid forced by pistons 10 through pipes 22 and 27 moves piston 58 to the left the rate of movement being controlled by valve 55. Liquid may then flow past regulating valve 18 through pipes 16, 12 and piston 9 to the larger cylinder 3 to bring about 'the working stroke. Downward feed movement of the saw is limited by stop 32 which forces valve 56 downwards and closes the feed passages.. The work is clamped by piston 47 supplied with pressure liquid from pipe 48 through the hand-controlled valve 50.
