496,218. Punching. MID-WEST PRODUCTION ENGINEERING, Inc. May 25, 1937, No. 14541. Convention date, May 25, 1936. [Class 83 (iv)] In a punching-machine a plurality of adjustable tools are operated by hydraulic means. A pump 1 driven by an electromotor 2 supplies liquid through a pipe 3 to a regulating valve 4 controlled by a rod 10. The punches 36 are secured to rams 28 guided by cross-heads 31 and operated by a plunger 20 in a cylinder 21 by liquid from a pipe 5a for the working stroke and a pipe 6a for the retraction stroke. In punching an automobile fender 46, Fig. 6, a frame 47 supports a plurality of punch units a-f, g, h-j, k-n. The valve 4 through pipes 5, 6, is connected to the cylinders of the separate punch units which are operated simultaneously when the valve control rod 10 is manually displaced. Spring-urged plates 40 surround the punches 36. The control valve 4 comprises a piston valve 11. In the position shown in Fig. 7, liquid from a pipe 3 flows through a pipe 5 to operate the punches and exhaust liquid flows through a pipe 6 and port 14 back to the pump. On the retraction stroke the flow is reversed.
