Abstract

513,418. Drying in rotary containers. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN, MAGNUSSON, F. G. R., and OHOLM, G. V. April 4, 1938, No. 10323. [Class 34 (ii)] A rotary drying drum for heating and cooling materials in the form of powder, grain, or like small particles, is divided into separate compartments forming a number of zones of different temperature, spaced along the drum, which has heat transmitting surfaces for indirect heat supply to the zones in the form of circular crosssection through which the material is conveyed. Tubes 2 in a drum 1 provide heating surfaces for material in conveyance therethrough. Agitators 4 secured to the wall or driven by separate members, or rotating crushers 7, or scrapers 8 may be provided together with grooves, pins &c. on the tube walls. The size or number of outlets 9 may be thermostatically or humidostatically controlled with respect to the condition of the outgoing air or of the entering or leaving material. The temperature of the heating medium around the tubes may be similarly controlled. A zone 12 or an extension 11 with agitator 4 may constitute a cooling zone, and zones such as 12, 13 may be supplied with gases or liquids of different temperature and pressure. The drum or tubes may be cooled by water sprinkled on the outer walls.
