[Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] The video-frequency band of a television transmitter is divided into two sub-bands of which the lower is transmitted on one carrier and the upper is shifted downwards in the frequency spectrum by an amount corresponding approximately to its lower limit and then transmitted on a second carrier. One of the sub-bands has a range corresponding to the sound-frequency band removed and replaced by the sound-frequency band. The two carriers are received on separate aerials and separately detected, the video-frequency subbands being recombined and the soundfrequency band separated out.
