Abstract
512,531. Lubricating internal-combustion engines. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., FEDDEN, A. H. R., and MANSELL, H. C. May 5, 1938, No. 13431. [Class 12 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In an internal-combustion engine having a balance weight 30 opposite the crank-pin 14, a lubricant duct 29 leads from the interior 28 of the hollow crank shaft to a discharge orifice 32 at the periphery of the balance weight so as to produce a curtain of oil spray inpinging on to the cylinders and sliding valve sleeves 20. The duct 29 is lined with a tube 36 Fig. 3, supporting a spring-pressed ball valve 40. This valve is located on the crank-shaft axis so as to be unaffected by centrifugal force, and is loaded so that oil only passes when it is at a predetermined pressure in the crankshaft.. Oil enters the tube 36 through narrow notches 44 which act as an oil filter. Specifications 293,968, [Class 12 (iii)], and 473,881, [Group XXIV], are referred to.
