[Class 20 (iii)] Relates to windows of the kind comprising a number of sashes which are hinged together and which are suspended, pivoted, and guided for sliding movement by means engaging tracks mounted in the window frame. According to the invention, each pair of sashes is fitted with upper and lower anti-friction rollers 14, 26, running in upper and lower guide channels 11, 25, and the sashes and windo,w frame are formed with vertical surfaces which contact when the sashes are in the closed position and prevent ingress of foreign matter to the channels and rollers from both the outside and inside of the window. The pivotal connections between the rollers and the sash frames lie between the outer and inner faces of the frames. In the construction shown, the rollers 14 are carried by a plate 12 formed with a pivot pin 16 which passes through an arm 19 of a plate 18 fixed to the sash 4. The arm is supported by an abutment 17 carried by the pin. The lower roller 26 is mounted on a pin 28 carried by a fitting 27 secured to the sash 4. The sashes and the window frame are stepped as shown to provide the contacting surfaces which serve completely to inclose the channels when the sashes are in the closed position. The window may comprise any number of sashes, and when three sashes only are employed the suspending means may comprise a short bar arranged between antifriction balls.
