Abstract

512,392. Magazine firearms. WIMMERSPERG, H F. VON. Jan. 17, 1939, No. 1662. Convention date, Jan. 20, 1938. [Class 119] Automatic or other firearms have a magazine provided with a device normally locked, but released by the agency of the follower, to indicate that the magazine is empty. The magazine has a cover 3 hinged at 4 and urged upwardly by a spring-plunger 5, movement of the cover being restrained by a locking member 12 pivoted at 13 and having one end formed as a spring 12f to urge the catch 12r over the cover. The topmost cartridge is displaced laterally by guide ribs 3v, 3h into position ready for thrustinto the breech, and when the last cartridge is so positioned the follower 9, as the breech bolt closes, is forced by a lug 2w on the bolt against a projection 12n on the locking member which passes through the wall of the magazine, the catch 12r being thereby released, and allowing the hinged cover of the magazine to spring into vertical position. The magazine can be recharged while the breech is locked, as the lug 2w then lies adjacent the projectile ends of the ammunition. The cover can be re-closed without re-charging the magazine by depressing the follower so that the locking member 12 may thrust the follower under a step 2e in the lug 2w. A magazine catch 14 has a slot 14s receiving a fixed pin 15, and is urged upwardly by a spring, the upper end of the catch being formed as a finger 14p passing through a slot in the wall of the magazine, to retain the cartridges. An additional manually controlled fastening for the magazine cover may be fitted. The magazine cover may open sideways.
