Abstract
511,891. Filters. MAHLE, H. June 14. 1938, No. 17623. Convention date, June 15, 1937. [Class 46] A filter having filter members arranged in pairs, one member of each pair acting as a filter while the other member is being cleaned, the functions of both members being reversed simultaneously by a change-over-member, is characterized in that each pair of filters is removably inserted in a common casing, the members being separated by a wall which accommodates the inlet and outlet passages for the liquid to be filtered. In the construction shown, a filter casing 1 is divided by a partition 2 into two chambers containing filter members 6, 9 mounted respectively, on pipes 5, 8. Each pipe is adapted to be closed at one end by a ball valve and is formed with a small hole 24. The partition 2 is provided with a change-over member 11, and with passages 14, 15 connecting with an outlet 16. With the member 11 in the position shown, liquid entering at 12 passes through pipe 5, opens valve 21, and passes in through filter 6 and through the opening 14, some of the filter liquid passing to the outlet 16. The remainder flows through passage 15 and through the filter 9, thereby cleansing it. The liquid then escapes through the hole 24 into pipe 8 and through passage 13 back to the source of supply.
