Abstract

511,887. Flash-light lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DOXEY, F. W. May 17, 1938, No. 14688. [Class 9 (ii)] Relates to a photographic flash lamp of the type comprising a sealed vitreous envelope containing sheets, bands or wire of highly oxidizable metal, e.g., aluminium, and oxidizing gas, e.g., oxygen, at a pressure below atmospheric, and means for igniting the said metal so that it burns readily in the said gas. According to the invention, part of the oxidizable metal is in the form of thin sheets and part in the form of thicker material, the ratio of the weight of the thicker material to that of the thin sheets lying between 1 and 5. The thick metal is also preferably in the form of sheets whose thickness is about twice that of the thin sheets. The thicker material may, however, be in the form of wire or strip. According to one embodiment, the thin sheet is all in one piece and is placed immediately adjacent the igniting means. The thick sheet is in 'three pieces and is placed round the thin sheet. In an alternative embodiment, both the thick and the thin sheets are divided into two pieces,. one thin piece being placed adjacent the igniting means, a thick piece outside it, a thin piece outside that and lastly a thick piece. Specifications 491,206 and 507,880 are referred to.
