[Classes 22 and 70] A composition of mineral wool and a hydraulic binder such as cement or lime is made by forming a suspension of the mineral wool, in the form of short fibres, in a large quantity of water and then adding the binder, preferably also in the form of an aqueous suspension. In an example one part by weight of mineral wool is suspended in 10 or 15 parts of water and to them is added a suspension of from one-third to 10 parts of cement, made by adding 70 to 100 per cent. of water to the cement. The further treatment may be effected in the manner known in' connection with the manufacture of asbestos cement products, or the suspension may be dewatered and the resulting plastic composition moulded or otherwise shaped. Light filling materials such as foamed slag, slag sand, pumice sand, and asbestos fibres may be added, and the material may be reinforced by wire netting, pieces of wire or iron filings. The formed articles may be hardened or waterproofed by impregnating with waterglass, waterproofing solutions, or tar or asphalt compositions, or by treatment with gases containing carbon dioxide, or with superheated steam. In a modification a suspension of mineral wool is used to mix ordinary mortar or concrete. The suspension may be partially dewatered before adding it to the mortar or concrete.
