Abstract

510,722. Filing papers &c. ; ; envelopes &c. WEBER, H. Feb. 5, 1938, Nos. 3689 and 3690. Convention dates, Feb. 5, 1937, and Oct. 12, 1937. [Classes 16, 146 (i) and 146 (ii)] Apparatus for storing printed matter 12 or similar flat packages and adapted to facilitate sending the packages through the post, comprises holders each consisting of a flexible strip or strips 11 having edge rails 6, 7 attached thereto so as to form an open-ended pocket for storing the contents when the rails are supported in a rack, and to form a wrapper for sending the contents by post by folding and securing the strip 11 around the contents. The size of the holder can be varied by winding the strip 11 around one of the edge rails 7. The rail 6 is provided with end projections 10 adapted to engage recesses 1a in the bars 1 of a rack to suspend the holders, and has an elastic band 5 mounted thereon whereby it is attached to the rail 7 of an adjacent holder by engagement with recesses 9. In one form of rack, the bars 1 are inclined to the horizontal and the rails 6 can be locked thereto by means of a hinged frame. In another construction, the bars 1 are vertical and a slidable frame is provided for locking the rails thereon. Slits 13 are provided in the bar 7 for the attachment of removable index tabs 16, each of which consists of a strip adapted to be folded and secured to the holder by passing a gummed part 19 thereon through the slit and sticking it to the inside of the tab. Two such tabs separated by a line of perforations 18 may be formed as a postcard or as part of a letter-card 17, Fig. 9. For sending through the post, the strip 11 is wound around the contents 12 so that the rails 6, 7 overlap and are secured together by the bank .5. The empty holder can be returned through the post by winding the strip 11 on the rail 7 and securing the rails together. One face of the rail 6 is used for the address and stamps when sending matter through the post, and the other side is used when the holder is returned empty. The strips 11 may be of fabric and the rails 6, 7 may be made of a lightweight material such as a light metal, wood, or artificial resin.
