Abstract

510,235. Endless-chain conveyers. TRAUT, R Jan. 24, 1938, No. 2328. Convention date, April 7, 1937. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Groups III and V] In a method of lining tubes with bitumen in which the tubes, charged with hot bitumen, are rotated during transfer at right angles to their axes along a cooling bed, the movement of the tubes along the bed effects rotating of the tubes about their axes either directly, by the engagement of the tubes with the bed, or indirectly through rotatable members supporting the tubes and engaging the bed. The tubes may be subsequently passed through a bath containing a cooling liquid. As shown in Fig. 1, the tubes a are fed from a table k to rails e forming a cooling bed along which they are impelled by arms b on driving chains engaging the wheels c, d. The upper ends of the rails e are bent to discharge the tubes into a cooling tank f provided with curved guide rails i, the tubes being carried through the tank by recessed discs h and discharged on to a table l. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the tubes a are carried along the cooling bed by carrier discs m mounted on a chain o, the discs m being rotated by the engagement of their hubs n with the rails e, and thus rotating the tubes.
