510,087. Refractory compositions. LAVINO & CO., E. J. Jan. 26, 1938, No. 2484. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1937. [Class 22] Dolomite or other lime-magnesia containing material is mixed with silica and alumina. containing materials, e.g., aluminium silicate and heated to below the fusion point but above the temperature at which calcium aluminate, calcium orthosilicate and, if there is sufficient silica; monticellite (CaO.MgO.SiO2), are formed, the remainder of the magnesia being present in periclase form. The calcium orthosilicate present may be stabilised in the a form by including a small amount of a phosphate or borate or other stabiliser in the mixture. The burnt clinker or brick may be ground and used to produce refractory bricks, cements or plastics. Specifications 487,213 and 509,901 are referred to.
