[Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] An adjustable phase shifting arrangement for use, for example, in feeders to or from individual aerial units of a directive aerial system, or between successive stages of a thermionic valve amplifier comprises two mutually perpendicular coils 1, 2 forming parts of oscillatory circuits tuned to different frequencies lying respectively above and below that of the input A.C. applied at terminals 6, 7. Thus currents in quadrature are produced in the coils 1, 2 and induce in a further pair of coils 3, 4 relatively rotatable with respect to the first pair a current the phase of which is dependent upon the angle between the two pairs of coils. The output may be fed through an amplifier comprising a push-pull pair of valves 14, 15 and transformer 20, as shown. The input may be supplied through a single valve amplifier, Fig. 2 (not shown), or it may be applied in push-pull to the grids of a pair of valves the anode circuits of which respectively include the coils 1, 2 in parallel with a seriesconnected combination of resistance and condenser.
