Abstract

509,472. Power meters; resistance measurements. SIEMENS - REINIGER - WERKE AKT.-GES. Jan. 13, 1938, No. 1224. Convention date, Feb. 9, 1937. [Class 37] Short-wave or ultra-short-wave oscillation apparatus for measuring the high-frequency energy absorbed by a patient or treatment subject comprises a common generator with tuning equipment, together with a substitute circuit for the treatment circuit in which substitute circuit there is included an element representing the patient or treatment subject, and reactances which are adjustable to restore the damping of the substitute circuit to that obtained in the treatment circuit ; or the substitute element, for example a solid or liquid resistor, can have its position changed in the substitute circuit. The high-frequency energy converted in the substitute element is measured calorimetrically, thermometrically, or, as shown in the Figure, the energy is measured photoelectrically on an instrument 12 calibrated in watts. The treatment circuit 3, 5 and substitute circuit 4, 6 are connected to the generator through switch 2, the condensers 7 ... 9 varying the resonant conditions of the circuit which includes an incandescent lamp 10 as the substitute element. Instead of varying the condensers or inductances in the substitute circuit, the substitute element can be moved on rails forming the conductors 4, the altered position of the element in the circuit producing the desired current-voltage relationship.
