Abstract
509,404. Steel; alloy steels. MEHTA, F. P. Jan. 11, 1938, No. 855. Convention date, Jan. 21, 1937. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] In the manufacture of steel or alloy steels, in which a rapid dephosphorization of molten blown acid Bessemer steel is produced by vigorously mixing molten basic oxidizing slag, carbon or alloying elements in the preheated state are added, after the dephosphorization, through the layer of slag covering the metal. Carbon in the form of wash metal, silicomanganese, silicon pig or ferro-chrome may be used for the addition of carbon &c. The carbon &c. is heated to such a temperature, i.e. not below 700‹ C., that it does not collect any coating of slag during its passage through the molten slag so that rephosphorization does not take place and the carbon &c. dissolves in a perfectly homogeneous manner.
