507,800. Covers for vehicle luggagecarriers. BLAKEBOROUGH, K. May 11, 1938, Nos. 14009 and 16333. [Class 103 (ii)] A protective cover for a luggage-carrier or grid at the rear end of a motor vehicle is mounted in a casing applied to the vehicle body or in a recess formed on the body and is capable, when required for use, of being drawn outwardly and downwardly from the conveyer recess to extend over and enclose completely the luggage on the carrier or grid to which its lower end is adapted to be secured. The invention is shown applied to a vehicle having a rear luggage recess b closable by a pivoted door c which also serves as a luggage platform when horizontal. One edge d<1> of the flexible cover d is attached around the rear edge of the recess, the front d<2> of the cover is secured to the door c, and the rear upper portion of the cover when extended is formed by a flap f which may be connected to the side portions by sliding-clasp fasteners f<1> and to. the door by press-button, strap, &c. fastenings or by locking means. Rods e hingable preferably about the pivots of the door c maintain the cover extended when the door is lowered. When the door is raised the cover folds automatically into the recess b. In another construction (not shown) the cover may be wound on a spring roller mounted within the recess b and be provided with side flaps or be so fashioned as to enclose completely the luggage oil the door c to which it is secured at its outer end. According to the Provisional Specifications the cover may be carried by lazy - tong devices.
