Abstract

The boot extension attaches to a motor vehicle that has the boot lid opening downward to form the base of the extension. The enclosure is formed over the open boot lid, with two lateral panels (3), two oblique panels (4) and a rear panel (5). These panels are hinged together and can fold down onto the boot lid. When extended the panels are supported by rods (6) attached to the bodywork of the vehicle. The panels are made of sheet metal, plastic, or covered metal mesh. A central spring (9) holds the panels in position. The rear panel carries the number plate, with lighting automatically connected.

Description

DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
In certain motor vehicles the rear luggage compartment is particularly small. The present invention allows the volume available for luggage to be increased inexpensively by lowering the trunk door downwards.

To comply with current regulations, any enlargement of the boot requires visibility from an angle of 45 "(see figure 1), of the two rear lights. It is therefore advisable to produce oblique side panels to release the said lights.

The following description shows an exemplary embodiment according to the invention.

Figure 2 shows a car trunk opening downwards (curved trunk door or not).

Figure 3 shows the trunk equipped with two side panels (3) which determine with 2 oblique panels (4) and a rear central panel (5) a volume complementary to the trunk itself. Two rods (6) between the side panels (3) and the body give the whole its rigidity by preventing both its raising and lowering. These rods are fixed in the top angle outside the side panels (3), by a pivot axis, and are anchored on the body in a small square fixed in the sealing groove of the trunk door. .

The oblique panels (4) are joined to the rear panel (5) by hinges (9). They fold laterally in the storage position against the latter inner side.

The two side panels (3) are articulated around an axis (7) to fold independently of the other panels on the inside of the trunk door, parallel to the opening of the trunk.

The oblique panels (4) are held in the open position by locking on the panels (3), such as that shown in Figures 4 and 5; a sliding sleeve (12) very slightly tightened, preventing them from detaching.

The oblique panels (4) have this position because they thus legally clear the vehicle's running lights at an angle of 45 ".

The panels (3) (4) (5) can be either sheet metal, plastic or wire mesh lined with a canvas.

Figure 6 shows how on the rear panel (5), a number plate (11) with lighting lights should be attached to ensure regulatory compliance. When deploying the panels (3) (4) (5). An automatic contact will ensure the transfer of the electrical connections necessary for lighting the plate.

Figures 6 and 7 show how the protection of luggage can advantageously be provided by a curtain (10) with reel (13) fixed inside the trunk.

Figure 8 shows how the panel (5) is articulated at its base around an axis to be able to fold in the stowed position, on the trunk door, being held by a strong spring (9). The latter holds all of the 5 panels pressed against the inside of the trunk door, thus making it possible to easily fold the assembly inside the trunk.

This figure 8 therefore shows the assembly folded before closing the trunk.
