507,696. Grinding wood. BEYER, P., and PRIMAVESI, O. April 13, 1938, No. 11319. Convention date, April '28, 1937. [Class 59] [Also in Group VIII] In the production of wood pulp for paper making by wet grinding pine wood a soluble salt of an alkaline earth metal, e.g. calcium chloride, is incorporated during the grinding and an alkali metal phosphate, e.g. trisodium phosphate, is incorporated immediately after the grinding thereby converting the resin of the wood into an insoluble compound which remains as a filler in the paper. The grinding water is preferably maintained alkaline by the addition of soda &c. If the wood pulp is to be subsequently bleached the alklaline earth metal salt may be added in excess.
