Abstract

507,388. Tyre building machines. UNITED STATES RUBBER PRODUCTS, Inc. Aug. 4, 1938, No. 23072. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1937. [Class 144 (i)] A machine for building-up fabric plies on a 'flat' drum 1 comprises a pair of stitcherwheels 5, 6 carried by arms 9, 10 pivoted on slides 13, 14 which are adjusted axially of the drum by means of a right-and-left threaded shaft 16 fitted with a hand-wheel 17. The slides 13, 14 are mounted on a slide 15 which is adjusted radially of the drum by means of a hand-wheel 24 fitted with a pinion engaging a fixed rack 23. Crank portions 27, 28 of the arms 9, 10 are normally forced against adjustable stops 31 by pistons 30 in pressure-cylinders 25, 26. To vary the angle of the stitcherwheels for operating around the bead-portions of the tyre, the wheels are pivoted on the arms by means of notched hubs 41 locked by spring- pressed latches 43.
